Talking about death with your child

8 9 Duck instantly thought Fish was very cool, as he was brightly coloured, and Duck loved anything with bright colours. Fish was very well cared for. He was always fed on time, not given too much food, and his tank was cleaned once a week to make sure he had the best place to live that he could possibly have. Duck would often spend time talking to Fish and making sure he was having a good time. Fish always seemed happy, healthy and like he was doing well. Today though, things were very different. The tank that Fish lived in was kept in the kitchen, and you could see it as soon as you walked through the kitchen door. Normally, as Duck walked into the kitchen, he would see Fish swimming around in his tank, but today was different. Duck woke up, got out of bed, brushed his beak, had his wash, and then went and said, ‘Good Morning!’ to his Mom and Prickles, who Mom was getting ready for the day ahead. Duck started to go downstairs as he knew he needed to feed Fish, and also have his own breakfast with Mom and Prickles.
