Talking about death with your child

7 6 In a little town, not too far away from where you live, there lived a Dog, a Duck and a Cat. They were the best of friends and always looked after each other. We start our story today at Duck’s house. Duck’s Mom, about a year ago, had given her son a great responsibility; she had given him a pet to look after. Mom would of course really be in overall charge, but she wanted Duck to have this new level of responsibility so he could learn how to take care of something other than himself, she’d just make sure he had the support he needed to do this. Fish had been brought home by Duck’s Mom. Duck had been very lucky to have been given a tank for Fish to live in, by a very kind neighbour. With his saved up pocket and birthday money, he bought some special food and various nice things to go in the tank so Fish would feel loved and at home.
